Nearly walking
Julian took his first tentative steps today - all three of 'em! I was the first one to see him take one step, and then I went out and David saw the trio I've mentioned. Dammit! Julian's been very proud of himself.
Recently, we went for his 18 month checkup at the Health Care Centre. They claim that babies his age speak an average of 5-20 words. They asked how many we had, and I replied, "Um, over 600, I think?" Seriously. I mean, the boy has five words for bread alone: toast, challah, bagel, bread, sandwich. It's a bit bizarre, the things he comes up with. He can say words like "ostrich" and "woodpecker" (both in his books) and can tell you nearly every part of the body, such as "elbow", "knee" and "foot." Now I'm sounding like I'm bragging, and maybe I am, but I also want to keep a record of his amazing progress. Apparently I was a very early reader, so perhaps the two are related. He's also doing a lot of garbled speech as if he's really anxious to talk. The speech stuff certainly comes in handy, especially at 11pm last night when we heard him talking over the monitor. We turned it up, only to hear him say, "Cacki...nappy." I went in and asked, "Do you have a cacki nappy, Julian?" Actually, no need: I could smell it. Yes, handy! He also can say his name, although he more often refers to himself as "Yanki", the nickname I have for him.
In other news, he now only measures 50th percentile on the height chart and 75th on the weight, although I do believe that health care centre nurse wasn't so great with the measuring tape! At any rate, we love him just the way he is!
