Me

I never really talk about what I personally am doing, so I thought I would, having been inspired by a friend's blog on her kid.

What I'm:

Reading: Just finished an amazing book called "Beware of Pity" by Stefan Zweig. Read it. I have now put down two books in a row, and am trying Adam Gopnick's book (he's a New Yorker writer) about his moving back to New York City with young children after a stint in Paris.
Listening to: Carla Bruni this second, because I was curious about whether she's talented as well as being beautiful and French's first lady. But generally, I've been getting really into Elliott Smith and the Mountain Goats. Both have depressing lyrics but very non-depressing beats. Go figure.
Working on: A few stories about interiors. That seems to be my beat lately.
Into: Jogging. I've been a non-exerciser for years, but got sick of looking terrible post-children, so I began jogging, which is much more accessible than anything else and cheaper than a gym. I don't know how it'll go now that summer hours are at an end (as I used to jog when the kids were asleep at night, but now it's dark then). I've lost considerable weight and have toned up a lot. And I really get a rush out of it, especially since I bought an ipod and go running with the aforementioned music. Only I call it "jogging/ running", but what it is most of the time is a pace that my friends can keep up to when they walk.
Wearing: Have been doing some retail therapy lately, especially as a result of new body. Must stop soon.

Julian had a great time at his friend Thomas' fourth birthday party today. He and Thomas go to kinder together; Thomas' aunt and I grew up together. It's a small world!

Purim

Purim came early to kinder this year, due to a holiday on Good Friday, when Purim would normally fall. Julian went through many costume changes in his head: he told me he wanted to be a birdie, but settled on a chef. (Which we had.) I thought he might want to change to be a pirate (we also have that) but he decided on a vet the night before. On the morning of Purim, I convinced him to do the easiest costume - the firefighter. He looked great! He also knew the story of Purim pretty well, reminding me of such Purim figures as Vashti, who I'd quite forgotten about. (And to think I once taught Sunday School!) On the day of Purim, he noticed a little girl, Millie, crying in the corner, and left his school parade to comfort her. So sweet!

Old Woman

Today, Julian and I were playing shopkeeper.

Me: "Can I please have some milk, sir?"

Julian: "Of course, old lady."

I tried to tell him that there were plenty of ladies older than me.
