Surfers Paradise
Well, we finally made it! After four years of not going on a plane (me) and Julian never going further than the zoo, we all went on a holiday to Surfers Paradise. It seemed crazy that we hadn't done this earlier at the beginning...Julian was a champ on the plane, declaring he loved flying, and sitting nicely for the 2 hour flight duration. He didn't complain of ear ache or anything. Once in our hotel, he adapted easily to restaurant food and hotel living...and was enthusiastic despite the first few days of crummy weather (showery and thunderstorms). However, by day 5 his enthusiasm had waned a little, and he no longer wanted to go swimming and was talking about home. The flight home...? Needless to say, NOW I know why we don't go on holidays more often! Still, he was a great companion on our trip and took me to places I wouldn't otherwise have seen, such as Dreamworld (where we rode a lot of rides), a wildlife sanctuary (where he held a crocodile and koala) and Seaworld (where we took in a sea lion show). All in all, a success! But gee, he's like his dad: upon arriving home, he went straight to all his toys and sighed a big sigh of relief that he now had access to all his old things/ favourite food/ bed. Not a nomad like his mum at all....

Julian slept through the night last night! Doesn't this sound like a conversation I had when he was, oh, eight months old? That's right. But for the last four months, he's been waking about 2 - 6 times per night, without fail. Convinced it's psychological, yesterday I showed him a great time (for only waking twice the night before), and promised him the world if he slept through last night. Hooray!
