Pirate party - part 1

 

 

 

So, with two months to go, Julian's pirate party plans are underway. I know this sounds excessive, but given that I work and I am time poor as it is, the only way I can get it done the way I want to (i.e. do the decorations etc myself) is if I'm super organized.

So, here is the first mock up of the invitation, minus the words. And below that are the hand-drawn goody bags I have created myself. I've already bought the favors: plastic pirates, eye patches, pirate stickers or tattoos, gold chocolate coins...each bag will slightly vary. For games, we'll do Pin the Parrot on the Pirate and a treasure hunt, among others. I've also got a pirate entertainer to liven things up. I didn't think I'd be able to outdo last year's dinosaur party, but you never know!

School holidays

 

 

Julian's been on school holidays for over 10 days now, and on the first day, I got up in a panic. You see, it seemed like I was the only parent at his school who hadn't scheduled him right down to the minute each day, and suddenly the holidays stretched before me in a seemingly endless gaping hole. What the heck would we do every day, all day?

Since then, we've found our time has been very filled indeed. On the first day, in a panic, I enrolled Julian into a morning cooking class, and the three of us (Zoe in tow) traipsed there together, making an inedible marble cake and a smiley face cookie. One day he had a sports program to do; on another we went to see Disney on Ice (nosebleed seats)! Tomorrow we'll go to a music concert, and we've been to a hideous play centre where I didn't have the good sense to dress Julian in something neon and bright - instead, he was running around with crowds of kids in a navy hoodie. Smart. But the best thing has been play dates: Julian has met up with six kids in all, and we had three (pictured) at our house on Sunday. The trio of boys: Ethan, Jake and Jesse, spent almost an hour hiding under Zoe's cot and trying to squeeze each other out for space. Ah, the things that kids come up with....

Julian's recent health care visit revealed that he's 75th percentile in weight, 50th percentile in height, and he's a bright little spark!
