If there was any ever doubt that Julian has a very sophisticated musical taste, he went upstairs with me today, picked up his toy guitar, and started playing and singing Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix, belting out: "Well she's walking through the clouds/ With a circus mind that's running round." He comes out with the craziest vocab, too. Today he was pretending to cut me with a saw. I asked why, and he said, "You're broken - you're ruined!" Yesterday, when he met his great uncle for the first time in ages, he said, "Supposedly, I'm shy." Of course, he still says "habind" instead of "behind." But, he's a gentlemanly little thing. Yesterday, my mother came over and fell off a wobbly kid's stool. Julian quickly ran to get her a chair, shlepping his rather heavy Ikea one into the room where she sat. Today, in line at Medicare, he introduced himself to a bloke named Duncan, saying, "I'm Julian. I'm two and a half."

A snapshot

Julian has the richest vocabulary, and says such funny things every day. He knows quite a few of his books by heart. Lately, he requests Jennifer Hudson from Dreamgirls on the CD player, calling her "the lady with the big, beautiful voice." He's obsessed with Blue's Clues, and only recently has accepted former leading guy Steve as well as the one he's used to, replacement Joe. He still sleeps with a sleeping bag, is happy in a high chair, likes his cot. He is a creature of habit. He likes eating an apple but you have to peel the skin. One of his favourite games is to hide under the doona with daddy. He likes cous-cous, brocolli soup and apple juice. When he meets a new person, he often announces "I'm shy," even though it soon becomes clear that he's anything but. He runs around like a whirring dervish, and while I don't remember any of my nephews being as hyper, he's about the same as most of the kids in his age group I've met, even more well behaved. He's great at sharing. He likes stories about dinosaurs, lollipops and, of course, the gardener Ken. It takes a long time to convince him to get dressed in the morning and afternoon. He is stubborn. He is charismatic. He is smart and kind. And we still haven't gone back to creche.

TV addict

There are days (too many), when the day comes to a close and I think: I have let my son watch too much TV, eat too much sugar, misbehave too many times, but boy am I glad the day is over! (and the only way I got through it was to let him watch TV, etc)

Here's what happens when you ask Julian to smile for a photo...
